Q:
My Siamese cat is sick, likes to lie very still, eats, but with very
little appetite,
does potty, has terrible breath. not very fun loving or playful any
more. Oh she also breathes very fast. Do you have any thoughts or
suggestions?
A: Generally, when cats show signs of anorexia,
decreased energy, and labored respiration, a potentially life threatening
problem exists. Additionally, bad breath may may indicate serious
infections, or organ failure. See your pet's doctor immediately!
Q:
My dog Daisy passed away 1 1/2 years ago in
December. After finally working through my grief, I think I'm ready
to open my heart again to a new dog. I am currently debating on whether
to adopt one dog or two, having heard that dogs enjoy the companionship
of each other. What do you recommend?
A:
Dogs typically do very well in pairs. The interaction between dogs
at play cannot be exactly duplicated with human companionship alone.
Dogs enjoy running and wrestling with each other, and frequently exercise
more when together. When considering adopting a pet, always remember
to visit our local shelters to give abandoned pets a second chance...Good
luck in finding the perfect pair!
Q:
My hamster has sores growing on his feet and
I don't know how to cure or stop them. A:
A
number of causes exist these sores. Hamsters can suffer abrasions
from wire cage bottoms, or cuts from sharp wood chips used in some
types of bedding. Self-trauma, injuries from fighting with other hamsters,
or unclean, moist bedding may also cause lesions on the feet. These
injuries can become infected with a staph bacteria leading to progression
of the sores and serious health risks. See your vet as soon as possible
so that antibiotics can started and other conditions, such as parasites,
can be eliminated.
